In just a few weeks I will be starting my long practicum. Ten weeks in a secondary school in metro Vancouver. I will be teaching Biology 11 (animal kingdom unit), Science 10 (physics section), and Social Studies 11 (government and politics). I am really looking forward to getting into the classroom and finally using all the techniques we have learned in real life.

I am in a linear school system so I have had the chance to meet all my students already, which I appreciate. Everyone seems great and I’m looking forward to working with all the students.

I am starting to panic a little bit to get lesson plans and “hooks” prepared on time. I like to be totally prepared and organized, but there is A LOT to do and I am a bit of a perfectionist, so there never seems to be enough time to prepare (although this is related to one of my personal/professional goals – improve my efficiency!)

I am not scheduled to teach any IB courses as of now, but I plan on at least sitting in on IB Biology 11 courses and some TOK 12 courses while I am there.
