One Day It'll All Make Cents

What Have You Done for Me Lately?

November 25th, 2011 · No Comments

I was recently in a seminar where we heard a social media professional discussing his frustration at the lack of engagement their social media campaign was having and he couldn’t understand why his audience wasn’t engaging in meaningful way.  Thats when Janet’s (Miss Jackson if you’re nasty) poignant words came to my mind What have you done for me lately?  As I was listening to the presentation I kept thinking what value are you offering your audience? What have you done for them to make them want to engage with you? What do they get?  For any brand looking to gain customer or user engagement it cannot be a one way street, you need to offer them something and you have every reason to do so.  Even my bookie gets that.

Im sure for most people when you here the word bookmaker you think of some shady character from Vegas like Frank Lefty Rosenthal who was brilliantly portrayed by Robert DeNiro in Casino.  The world has changed a lot since then, Vegas is more known now for Bachelorette parties and medical device sales conferences than it is for mob bosses and as Vegas moves away from the image of shady men in dark smoke filled rooms, some new school bookmakers have understood the value social media as much as anyone.

As someone who spends his weekends watching football and occasionally using an online book to make a wager I find the information given by some Vegas bookmakers as invaluable.  One of the “must follow” people is Todd Fuhrman from the Ceaser’s Entertainment, Todd who has a degree in International economics is not only changing the old image of Vegas bookmakers but also giving out valuable information to betters to help them make the most informed bets possible.

So I know your saying, what the hell does this have to do with me? I dont even gamble! Here’s the thing, Todd’s business is a zero sum game, if the gambler wins he loses and if he wins, the gambler loses, yet he still deems it important to give his users something of value through social media and because of it creates real customer engagement.  Todd gives his customers valuable information on a daily basis, what do you do for yours?
