Hoi An

Hoi An is a beautiful town and one of our favourite places in S.E. Asia. The streets are lined with tailor shops that can custom make any item of clothing you can think of in less than 24 hours, and for a very reasonable price. Other shops are full of very beautiful souvenirs, ranging from carvings to paintings to jewelry. The town is even more beautiful at night when lanterns line the streets and bridges.

We spent several days just strolling around the town, having some drinks, eating delicious food and spending far too much money. I bought a beautiful coat for $30 and knee high leather boots for $60, which have received many compliments back in Canada!

Local boys selling candles to float down the river for good luck

After a couple of days of relaxation we decided to rent bicycles for the day ($1 each) and explore the nearby countryside and beaches. We biked to China beach, which was a pleasant local beach. We relaxed on sun beds as we watched locals bringing in the days catch from the ocean. We then biked around the countryside and saw the palm plantation and went to Nam Cam Island (there wasn’t much there!). It was a very enjoyable last day in Hoi An and a good way to stop all the spending.
