Subject: Proposal for job information center for international student in UBC campus

Introduction

The international students experience extreme difficulties when they try to get a job in Canada. However, there is no information center to help the international students to get a job in UBC.

Statement of Problems UBC tries to attract more international students than before as a business, they tend not to care their students after graduation. By making the job information center for the international students that informs the students which company hires the international students who can speak two languages or hires the international students without discrimination related to the working visa, the international students would be more competitive and it would be great for UBC as well.

Problems

Many international students are studying in UBC and many of them want to get a job in Canada. However, it is not easy for ESL students to get a job with low quality English skill. Moreover, due to the financial crisis, the regulation of hiring ESL students became very strict compared to before.

Proposed solution

If new job information center build, not only international students, also UBC will get advantages. There are several reasons that why UBC also get advantages. First, if new job information center helps to get job for international students, students that are more international will be interested in getting into UBC. Most of international students want to get a job in the Canada that UBC can help their opportunities. The second reason for why UBC has to make new job information center is that UBC could help more international students about more information than now.

Scope

In order to determine the feasibility of Job center for international student, I plan to examine:

  • How to provide job information for international students?
  • How UBC will hire specific advisors to give the information to international students?
  • Is there possibilities to find the company where they want to hire bilingual or trilingual students?
  • Is it possible to train students until they have ability to compete with Canadian students?
  • How will UBC find the companies that supports the international students as the visa sponsor?

Method

To answer this question, I plan to meet international student’s communities and conduct surveys with them. I will make sure these surveys are completed by a range of big number of the population with more than five different nationalities and different locations and different years. I will also conduct interviews with job centers in UBC for gather how to find companies that can help international students and useful websites.

My Qualification

As an international students and graduating next year, I have had many difficult times to find jobs and found out that there are not enough information for international students.  I am a member of Korean UBC student association group, I can distribute my survey to my members, and our group has good relationships with Chinese’s association and Japanese’s association so I can find ways to distribute my surveys.

Conclusion

The lack of international students’ job information center in UBC has caused a big trouble for international students. Students are having a hard time to find a job after they graduate and only way they can do is just go back to their origin country even though they want to work in the Canada. In order to solve this problem, UBC has to provide additional job information that is useful and appropriate for student with several specific advisers to give students advice when they have problems.
