I am from Red Deer Alberta, an area that intersects treaty 6 Cree and treaty 7 Blackfoot territories. My areas of study at UBC are Art History and First Nations and Indigenous Studies. I would say that the majority of my scholarship revolves around the deconstruction of narrative, and the investigation of arguments through art, media and scholarly literature. In relation to FNIS, this is primarily a decolonial scholarly practice that enables me to critically examine my own relation to place as well as build a strong foundation of critical thought in regards to the world around me.
My main area of creative interest has been in performance art, a practice that has evolved for me out of dance and theatre training and informed by my studies in Art History. Themes I have explored in my work that are relevant to the thinking in this class are subversion of power dynamics, body sovereignty and the relationship between power and aggression. Other areas of interest for me are in industrial and textile design.
