According to an article published on November 11th 2015 Switzerland is introducing driverless transit buses in 2016.  This technological advancement, BestMile, will be operated under the bus company Postbus by two graduate students from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. The buses will be controlled in a similar way in which airplanes are controlled from a control tower.

In Ingrid Bakke’s blog she claims that this concept has it’s positives and negatives. This concept would mean that the government would employee less drivers and save money. This would also mean that there will be public transit available in places it wasn’t before. Although this has a huge start up cost but in the long run it will save a lot of money for the government. She adds that this concept might have a few negatives too, such as, technical malfunctions and the lack of a physical person being there might not be safe for the surroundings.

On the contrary I believe that implementing this concept would increase unemployment in Switzerland. I couldn’t agree more with ingrid when it comes to the positives of this concept. It’s a technological advancement that will help save millions of dollars and it a more efficient way of using resources. At the same time the Swiss government should come up with ideas that reduce unemployment hence forth.
