“A man without ethics is a wild beast loosed upon this world.”- Albert Camus.
Loss of trust in India
Hindu Business Line states in the article of “India Lacks Business Ethics” that “In 2011, India received only 6.5 million foreign tourists as compared to 57 million in China, according to World Bank. Forget China, India could not match even a smaller country, Malaysia (25 million)”. India’s poor statistics are due to the frauds and scams done by locals.
To help alleviate this problem the government will have to enforce the law and make more severe punishments if any sort of cheating occurred.
Another solution to this would be if the government tried improving literacy rates in India. In 2011 the adult literacy rates of India were sitting at 74% (taken from “Census of India“). Due to low literacy rates, a majority of Indian workers to look for low paying jobs that do not satisfy their wants or needs, leading to more cheating, scamming and frauds.
For long term sustainable growth for the economy and businesses in India a high level of trust between the customers and businesses must be maintained. If ethics are improved tourists will start travelling to India again, and the economy of India will thrive and reach even greater heights of economic success.
