{"id":87,"date":"2013-07-09T17:31:58","date_gmt":"2013-07-10T00:31:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/shisandy\/?p=87"},"modified":"2013-07-15T16:43:01","modified_gmt":"2013-07-15T23:43:01","slug":"module-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/shisandy\/2013\/07\/09\/module-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Module 5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ICT for TOCs<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It was fascinating hearing everyone\u2019s inquiry ideas.\u00a0 There were many great topics being suggested and it\u2019s unfortunate that we don\u2019t have to the time to investigate all of them.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/limterrence\/\">Terrence<\/a>\u2019s idea about ICT for TOCs struck a chord with me.\u00a0 Being a TOC, it\u2019s difficult to present lessons with ICT in the classroom.\u00a0\u00a0 Most importantly, you don\u2019t know what ICT available and accessible until you walk into the classroom door.\u00a0 As much as I liked my own ideas, I thought that investigating the topic of ICT and TOCs was one that would be most applicable to my situation come September.<\/p>\n<p>Terrence and I brainstormed about the purpose and goal of our project, but we were encountering challenges developing a focus for our study and its practicality in a real world situation.\u00a0 What are we doing?\u00a0 What are we asking people to do?\u00a0 And will they do it?\u00a0 We got stuck dwelling on who are participants were and how to get them to contribute.\u00a0 Our thoughts were a bit scattered, but luckily Jenny helped direct us.<\/p>\n<p>Our inquiry project will examine the availability of ICT for TOCs (and new teachers) in the classroom.\u00a0 The range of types and quantity of ICT varies greatly across the district and within individual schools.\u00a0\u00a0 I have visited some classrooms where each student had a laptop, where there was only 1 computer (the teacher\u2019s) and everything in between.\u00a0 It\u2019s hard to plan and predict what\u2019s available in the classroom unless you\u2019ve been in the classroom or school before, which isn\u2019t always the case.\u00a0 Any marvelous lesson plan or activity won\u2019t work if the ICT you need isn\u2019t there.\u00a0 Therefore, Terrence and I propose a plan for an ICT database that TOCs can refer to that lists ICT related information for each school in the district.\u00a0 Other TOCs or teachers can complete our ICT checklist and it can serve to help TOCs prepare for teaching with ICT in the classroom he\/she is substituting that day.\u00a0 By teaching an ICT enriching lesson, hopefully it can inspire other teachers to try more innovations in their own lessons, (plus it makes you look good in front of the admin and that\u2019s not a bad thing if you\u2019re looking for a full time job).<\/p>\n<p>MindMeister Mind Map<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"overflow: hidden;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mindmeister.com\/maps\/public_map_shell\/308577751\/ict-for-tocs?width=600&amp;height=400&amp;z=auto\" height=\"400\" width=\"600\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nCreate your own <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mindmeister.com\/\">mind maps<\/a> at MindMeister<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ICT for TOCs It was fascinating hearing everyone\u2019s inquiry ideas.\u00a0 There were many great topics being suggested and it\u2019s unfortunate that we don\u2019t have to the time to investigate all of them.\u00a0 Terrence\u2019s idea about ICT for TOCs struck a &hellip;
