Welcome to my Web Folio!  The purpose of this Web Folio is to showcase my work in the course, English 301.

This course enabled me to become familiar with and practice the principles of online and written communication within a professional context. This interactive course, taught by Dr. Erika Paterson from the University of British Columbia, helps students develop important written communication skills used in their work place, from backgrounds including health sciences, education, and commerce. Over the course of four months in the first semester, we embarked on four different writing units that seamlessly build upon each other and have real-world applications. Each unit consisted of 3 lessons, one a week. We, as students, practiced and manufactured our writing to suit particular audiences, through weekly assignments as well as 3 major assignments including this Web Folio, an account on LinkedIn, an application package, and a Formal and Final Report. We worked independently, in collaboration with the course instructor, and also formed writing teams consisting of members from different backgrounds to foster and promote clear writing by providing fresh perspectives and enhanced collaboration. The distance learning course was delivered through many different online platforms including this blog which now hosts my work from the term. Other platforms include but are not limited to: Facebook, WordPress, LinkedIn, and email.

I have to say, I must be the least tech-savvy person I know! And by the end of this semester I do feel much more confident not only in the field of technical writing, but in building online profiles and webpages! Needless to say, I do enjoy that satisfying feeling of finally completing a challenging and, dare I say, overwhelming homework assignment that had previously kept me up for hours.  As a recent graduate from the dental hygiene diploma program, and now in my final semester of a bachelor in dental science, I am now feeling less like a student, and more like a professional with the completion of this course.
