My name is Sidney Singh and I am a fourth year Creative Writing Major at UBC Vancouver. I write in a variety of genres including poetry, comics and screenplay. My favourite genre is comics as it uses both images and writing. Writing in a variety of genres allowed me to experiment and challenge myself. I believe to become a better writer one must work outside their comfort zone. Another vital part of becoming a writer is studying literature. That is why I completed the German Studies minor along with my major. The minor allowed me to read the greatest German language literary works in English. I enjoy reading world literature in translation as it offers me a different perspective on the world. However, throughout my time at UBC I learned I had to write more emails than short stories!<\/p>\n
\u00a0In addition to my studies, I am also the Secretary for the Creative Writing Student Association (CWSA). I had to learn how to write comprehensive meeting minutes. This is a form of technical writing that I was not aware of. I also participated in the Witnessing Auschwitz virtual seminar during the summer. The seminar allowed me to conduct my own research on the Holocaust. I am looking forward to presenting my research at the annual conference in early October. My experience with CWSA and the seminar taught me the importance of clear and concise communication. A typo or missing word in a text could cause confusion for my peers and thus result in mistakes. I feel fortunate to had the opportunity to participate in CWSA and the seminar. Overall, I enjoyed my time at UBC. This is my final year and I will be graduating in May.<\/p>\n
After graduation I will continue to work on my creative writing projects. I aim to use the skills I learn in technical writing in my future correspondance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
