BIOGRAPHY

Simone Harris, A honours Graduate of the General Arts and Science certificate program, studied at Fanshawe College London Ontario, Class of 2012. She started her career in the dental field from an early age, as the certificate mentioned above was not a choice made by mistake, but a choice made to solidify her spot in gaining entry to her program of choice, “Dental Hygiene diploma.”

Ms. Harris was yet another honours graduate as she received her three-year advanced diploma in dental hygiene at the Fanshawe College London Ontario, class of 2015. In 2015, Ms. Harris became a registered member of the Canadian Dental Hygiene Association and had since been in good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario.

Ms. Harris is currently a successful dental hygienist and has been practicing in the clinical field for over six years with a perfect professional record consisting of an employee of the month for nine consecutive months in 2020; most appreciated by clients, according to the yearly client feedback survey. Ms. Harris is passionate about her job as a dental hygienist and has completed relevant additional courses such as teeth whitening, Invisalign, and treatment planning. Ms. Harris is detailed oriented, career-driven and professionally inclined.

Her philosophy is client-focused care to achieve optimal oral health and overall health through education and preventive services. Ms. Harris decided to broaden her career opportunities by applying for the Dental Hygiene degree program at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2019. Currently, Ms. Harris is in her final year of the program, anticipating what the future awaits.

Having a keen interest in public health is a professional interest for Ms. Harris. She would like to advocate for minorities who face dental inequalities and access to dental care. Being raised in a single-parent home, Ms. Harris sympathizes with single-parent families and the financial struggles they face. Frequently, they are left to choose between basic needs like food, shelter and clothing, or regular dental care. Unfortunately, dental care gets neglected most often.

Ms. Harris aims to improve the existing healthy smile dental program to reach more minority families and focus more on preventive and educational services instead of treatments. The above mentioned will lower the percentage of negative dental effects in children of minority and low-income families.
