It is a huge honor to be named the most ethical company in 2015, and with that H&M proudly holds this title. “The World’s Most Ethical Companies embrace the correlation between ethical business practice and improved company performance. These companies use ethics as a means to further define their industry leadership and understand that creating an ethical culture and earning the World’s Most Ethical Companies recognition involves more than just an outward facing message or a handful of senior executives saying the right thing,” says Ethisphere’s Chief Executive Officer, Timothy Erblich.
Seeing it is a massive clothing company, questions do come up about work conditions and material used and especially since their clothing line is on the cheaper end, people automatically assume they must have cheap poor working conditions. However, H&M has ensured that all the building contractors signed a code of conduct ensuring good working conditions. Not only that, but they recycled polyester which was equivalent to 9.2 millon plastic bottles.
Am I fully persuaded that H&M is indeed ethical? Perhaps not 100%, because with a global brand such as themselves, there is always a loophole. But they are striving towards it.
