Task 9: Network Assignment Using Golden Record Curation Quiz Data

When I first looked at the visualization, I was struck by how connected everyone seemed. The web of lines made it look like we were all part of one big network. I was surprised by how many people I was linked to. I was even more surprised that only one song, Track 16: Rite of Spring (Sacrificial Dance), was connected to just one person. Every other song had at least two connections, which made the whole thing feel more collective than individual.

But the more I looked at it, the less sure I was about what it really meant. The visual shows who is connected, but not why. It doesn’t tell me anything about the people behind those choices, their backgrounds, ages, or even their reasons for picking certain songs. There’s so much missing context. It also says nothing about the songs people didn’t choose. Maybe someone didn’t pick a song because they’d never heard it before, not because they didn’t like it.

So while the visualization makes us all look connected, it doesn’t actually explain those connections. It shows patterns, but not the stories behind them.
