As we came back to school for our second semester of our education program, my cohort was asked by a teacher to think of what we wanted from the year. Instead of asking us to come up with a list or a plan for getting what we want, we were simply asked to write down a single word to represent what we wanted. A simple enough task to be sure, but I soon found myself with 10 words on my page. This post is in response to that question. Here is what my page ended up with:
Happy.
Many of the words I had chosen or considered had great significance to me (independent, me, experience, positive, appreciate), but this year has been a bit of a growth year for me dealing with big life changes and decisions, trying to get back at being who I am and loving myself. I often try and reflect on what I want and who I am, but in the end what it comes down to, is I want to be my best self and that means being happy. It’s a simple word that many people would likely choose if asked the question (another person in the same class even choose it as well), but it’s what I want and it really should be the focus for many people. If we can’t love ourselves and be happy, it’s so hard to give to others.
As I was challenged to come up with a word, I challenge everyone who reads this to come up with their own word and figure out what they want. And to keep the flow of happiness going, I challenge you again to sit down and talk with someone (your class, family, friends) and say something positive or happy that has happened recently to or around you. Keep passing on the happiness and appreciate life for every thing it gives you.
