“Physical literacy is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge, and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life” (International Physical Literacy Association, May, 2014). Canada’s Physical Literacy Consensus Statement highlights the goal of purposeful physical pursuits and physical education. Physical literacy encompasses the psychomotor abilities students learn with a large emphasis placed on the motivation and confidence and cognitive aspects. “These skills enable individuals to make healthy, active choices throughout their life span that are both beneficial to and respectful of themselves, others, and their environment” (Whitehead, 2007).
