HP Faces 10-year ban
In Barrie McKenna’s article it stated that HP will face a 10-year ban as Canadian government’s technology supplier. Hewlett-Packard, a leading technology supplier to the Canadian government has recently faced with a 10-year ban from selling its products and services to Ottawa, due to high-profile U.S bribery conviction. The company now may face criminal charges pending against the number of former employees of the Montreal-based engineering firms as a part of global bribery. This article directly relates to the business ethics which was discussed in class. A company that is well known in the technological industry and that has been a main technology supplier to Canada can potentially risk losing everything simply by ignoring the idea of ethics. Under the new regime in Canada, companies now face an automatic ban on future government contracts if the company has convicted crimes even if it’s outside of Canada. Overall from this article we can see the importance of business ethics once again, and how even a company that is so well known and one of the top in the tech industries can face severe consequences for not following the rules/laws.
