Tec de Monterrey, Bilingual Private School
First Few Classes
It was a long journey to Zacatecas and an interesting start to our first day at Tec de Monterrey, the private bilingual school. I walked into the school unaware of where anything was and what I would be doing for the day because I had not been given much information and our coordinator had been out of town when we arrived to Mexico. I came to the school with Stephanie and Martina, the two other Teacher Candidates from UBC. We were welcomed and everyone seemed very excited to finally meet us. My School Advisor, Rossy, was teaching a lesson when I was sent to her class. She finished doing a word game, which required the students to spell out vocabulary from the sports unit then write the words down with pictures beside them. This was a grade seven class learning basic English. When Rossy finished doing the activity she told me to take over the class. From then on, I was in charge of all the classes until the exam period.
Secundaria Bilingue Tec de Monterrey
Grade Seven, Eight, and Nine Middle School Students!
I taught three English classes (basic level 1, basic level 2, intermediate), Health and Wellness, and was in charge of Theater class. Most of the students listened well and I didn’t need to get strict with anyone, but I knew it was because I was a new face and they were intrigued by a teacher from out of the country. I had to cater to the various levels of English because some were very fluent while others were still learning to speak and write, but it was a great experience to hear all the different types of English. By types I mean the broken Spanish-English, the fluent-yet-thick-accented English, the fluent and lightly accented English, and English with interesting grammar…
