Things to Adjust to…
It was a really hard trying to understand Spanish or even pick up any words when people were talking. I came into Mexico only knowing a handful of words and I knew it would take a while for me to learn important phrases. At the school, there were lots of interesting things I noticed in the first class. All the students were wearing uniforms and the girls had their hair tied up. No one had dyed hair or makeup on in my class. There was no lunch time during the school day because everyone went home at around 2:30pm. School started at 7:30am every day and after two blocks was a long recess from 9:50 am to 10:15am. We had another break after fourth block but that was only ten minutes. It was a strange schedule to adjust to, especially because of the eating times throughout the day. We would eat breakfast at 6:30am, eat lunch around 3:00pm and dinner sometime before 9:00…if we were even fed at home. A lot of the time we had to go out to buy our own food because our host mom didn’t cook dinner for us!
