About Us

Karolina Kukulski

I am pursuing the Master of Sustainable Forest Management program because I want to turn my passion for the outdoors into a career. Having the tendency to look for any excuse to be outside, hike, swim, and explore the unknown, I’ve been getting my feet dirty ever since I was a child. More often than not, the muddy shoes gallivanting in and out of the house would result in a scolding, so naturally I would simply stop wearing them. Most people spend their entire lives dreaming, while only a lucky few have the chance to chase theirs. My dreams have led me on road trips all across Canada, as far south as Niagara Ontario, and as far north as High Level, Alberta, working in the muskeg. The MSFM program will provide me the chance to become the RPF whose lifestyle is defined by trekking boots through the mud.

Kelly Hall

Greetings! My name is Kelly Hall and I am from Lake Country, BC. At UBC Okanagan I studied cultural anthropology and archaeology, subjects which continue to fascinate me. After spending some time working on excavations in Ireland, I returned to my home in British Columbia and began branching out, exploring the great diversity of this province. The decision to pursue forest sciences came out of a growing fascination with my environment and a complete inability to stay off the dusty trails and rock walls of the Okanagan. Moving to Vancouver to attend UBC, I found that my interest in the subject grew deeper by the day. I spent the summer of 2017 working on northern Vancouver Island, taking in everything I possibly could within that short time frame. My goal is to become an RPF and find a challenging and rewarding career that lets me get to know British Columbia even better.

Chris Langevin

Hi everybody; I was raised in Hawaii where I grew an affinity for the outdoors early on hunting and hiking with 5 dogs. When I graduated, I moved to beautiful British Columbia in order to attend UVic. I worked in Quesnel, BC as a Junior Forester for 4 summers working primarily on Caribou conservation blocks and timber cruising. I found that I thrived in the line of work and found a passion for the wild. Upon completion of my Business/Economics undergrad, I traveled to New Zealand and lived out of my van (The Falcon) for 3 months almost constantly hiking/fishing. My motivations for joining the MSFM program are that I would like to make nature my office, however I have found that without an RPF ticket, I can’t make the impact on the industry that I would like. This program is an excellent opportunity to enrich my career potential in a morally sound and exciting way.

Zoë Scantlebury

Hello! My name is Zoë Scantlebury and I’m from Toronto, Canada. I finished my undergrad in Mining Engineering at Queen’s University. With my exposure to mining engineering I became very interested in sustainability and mine reclamation. Between my 2nd and 3rd year I worked in the BC interior doing regeneration surveys and fell in love with being out in the bush. I love outdoor activities such as hiking, SUPing, cycling, longboarding, skiing and Quidditch. I’m super excited to be a part of the MSFM program.

Tyler McDivitt-Vandermolen

Hello, my name is Tyler.  For the past three years I have lived in Terrace, BC where I am employed as a forest technician and junior biologist. When I am not at work I pursue rock climbing, skiing and paddling. More recently I have been hiking with my dog, Nyssa Sylvatica, who also appreciates plenty of time in the forest. My academic background includes a degree in biology from Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario while my work history spans outdoor recreation, ecological research and restoration. My experience in various forestry related employments has allowed me to discover my love for the complex problem solving, knowledge of ecology, and intellectual challenge that a career in forestry affords. I am thrilled to be part of the MSFM program and the future of forest management in BC.
