Dear Students of English 301,

As a student of the sciences with a major in Computer Science I believe I would be an excellent team mate and addition to any writing team. As someone in the end of their degree and with a career in technology in my future, I’m hungry to improve my skills and prove myself as someone capable of effective technical communication in text.

In my time in Computer Science often required of me is the explanation of my software, algorithms and approaches to the problems at hand. Tasks almost always have multiple pathways to valid solutions so it’s often an explanation of the journey instead of the destination that is more important to share and communicate. On top of the writeup’s required when I finish a piece of work, I also have experience in the formal planning and general structure stage of work expressed in technical written forms. As an intern at Microsoft, when given features and special jobs to complete I frequently had to accompany them with a specification of my work before even having written a single line of code.

In my eight months at Microsoft I was heavily invested and integrated with my team despite it being only a temporary position. Despite my short tenure I was also focused on being another team member as equals with the full time employees, not just a student who would forgo responsibilities and difficult tasks in the name of inexperience. Integration is a vastly important aspect of team work and cohesion and I believe I am effective at doing so.

If you have been convinced or would like to discuss further about how I could be a great addition to your team feel free to contact me at your convenience. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Nick Rutigliano
