SLAIS Gamers Meeting – February 25th 2015

Meeting started: 11:35
In attendance:
Taylor Kenkel (Master of Coins/Treasurer)
Matthew Murray (Internet Overseer/Webmaster)
Maria Paraschos (Scribe/Secretary + Note Taker)

1) Money, etc.
– Taylor: receipts will be submitted to LASSA this week.
– Expenses: Gaming session: -10.65$; Card for library tour: -10$. (Total: -20.65$)
– Current Budget:  approximately +30$ remaining

2) Events!
– Gaming session: could have been more successful; Matthew was hoping more people would come, but it was ok overall; increased visibility of group at least.
– SFU Tour: fun; cool; lead to interesting discussion re: preservation + archiving games, pictures are up on SLAIS Gamers blog

3) Future events and to-dos
– To do: Elect more people!
– Get people to show up at meetings!
– Host another gaming session? Possibly set up something at the End of Term Potluck.
o Taylor to recruit more members from cohort via Facebook page
o Maybe bribe people with baked goods?
o March very busy month. Maria will make a doodle to see people’s availability; put on mailing list and Facebook page; maybe also SLAIS Social page.
– Event: Board Games for Adults at Mount Pleasant library on March 24th from 6PM-9PM.

4) Other interesting things of note
– ALA conference happening end of June, there are games stuff there: Game roundtable interest group in ALA
– Gaming in libraries Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/MTGLibrarians/. Good resource for those interested in gaming + librarianship!

Next meeting: March 24th at 12 pm. Maria to book room, TBA (probably Trail Room as usual)

SFU Gaming Library Tour

We recently visited The Games Room and Collection at Fraser Library (Surrey). They have a pretty awesome collection of video games and peripherals.

Those are all PC games!

They even had some games on floppy disks!

And at least one game with 5 1/4 inch disks! Tandy compatible!

They keep all the console games behind the counter.

They also have a small collection of board games students can borrow.
