Landslides on Vancouver Island can cause significant damage to the region’s growing population and the infrastructure they rely upon. There are many ways to conduct landslide hazard assessments. Previous GEOB 370 projects applied a multi-criteria evaluation and considered various factors including slope and soil characteristics. This project aims to increase the accuracy of this methodology by using a deterministic model that more accurately accounts for the contribution that slope and soil type make to landslide risk. We found that by including a deterministic model, of the effects of slope and soil type on risk assessment, a larger area of possible slope failure could be identified. Furthermore, the MCE with the deterministic model, was able to identify a larger area that was safe from landslides.<\/p>\n
