Assessing Public Space

Understanding ‘Inclusiveness’ in Public Space: Learning from Existing Approaches

In Summer 2019, I was hired by UBC Sustainability and the City of Vancouver as one of their Greenest City Scholars. Within 4 months, I developed and completed an individual research project under the mentorship of planners from VIVA Vancouver.  The goal of the project was to examine existing frameworks on how to approach public space inclusivity and propose potential methods on how to asses inclusiveness. In the end, I compiled a report that highlights the importance of inclusive public space and provides the knowledge foundation on how public space inclusivity can be measured and achieved. I also improved my project management skills by developing a project specific Gnatt Chart, maintaining a project resource library and meeting all deadlines.
