Improving organizational communication skills

Jillian Phipps’s blog refers to ways to improving organizational communication in a company. one of them is using social media services like Facebook or Twitter. In our present era, most people using social media and spending most of their times on that. So, this is an easy way to employees connect with each other and foster their relationships because one of the important things in any organization is how they interact with each other and inform about their interests. Also, the organization can make specific groups to put the daily news for each department there to every employee also can discuss in this group. I think The important thing that we have to consider is that being active in social media and creating this group chats depends on the culture of the company. For example, if the company is based on team works and creativity methods so this is a great way to improve their communication.
Lots of organizations using open office concept to enhance the communication of employees and improve their group performance. In my view, this is a great way to boost the motivation of employees especially in group-base companies that need to have innovations and creative ideas but normally employees need enough private space to think individually as well and not distract from other people. That’s companies should consider their design as well to provide a situation for employees that is adequate from both dimensions. In some cases, using this motivation strategies distract employees and decrease their individual performance so companies should balance these two to get the highest potential of their employees. Therefore, I think to use these motivation and communication strategies we have to consider the culture and values of the company and the structure of the company to reach to the best outcomes.

Do extroverts make better leaders?

I think extroverted people have the ability to communicate with new people very easy and without thinking about the results. Also, extraversion is one of the vital points in terms of leadership. So, the question is that are extroverted leaders always better than introverted?
In Colleen Sharen’s blog, I find out interesting information about this issue.
Recently, a study has shown that extraversion is not useful in all of the dimensions of leadership and in some cases can decrease the productivity of the team.
There is a relationship between extraversion or introversion in a leader’s perception and proactivity or passiveness of the employees. Well, the extroverted leaders are better with passive groups and introvert leaders are better with proactive groups and that is because extroverts have the ability to motivate employees fast and communicate with them easily to persuade them to follow him or her. Hence, that creates a good performance between extroverted and passive employees because they need this leader to give them the instructions quickly and give them motivation through talking and giving ideas.

The problem might happen when extraverted leaders have to work with proactive employees because these employees normally have their own ideas and they want to make things happen. In general, extroverts are not good listeners and that is why they can’t listen to ideas of their employees and implement them in the organization. Therefore, to be an extroverted leader or a proactive employee is a positive point in the organization and make the company successful but they have to complement each other. It would be better to leader become less extrovert by accepting new ways and encourage proactive behaviors. In my view, if you are an extrovert person, your job as a leader is going to be easier but you have to consider other opinions as well.

The unique culture of Stella & Dot company

From Maria Shriver’s blog, I came to know about a jewelry and accessories company which is called Stella & Dot selling company. Stella & Dot has a unique culture in comparison with other competitors in this industry. The company provides entrepreneurial opportunities for women. The interesting part is the way that they presenting and marketing their products, each stylist can present their boutique-style jewelry and accessories through in home-Trunk shows or online.Actually, everyone can be a host for a Trunk show and they just have to invite their friends and choose their stylist. At the end, the host can earn 25% of sales. Firstly, these shows is a great way for making the company popular.Secondly , the stylists can earn money and it creates a great chance for them to present their individual styles in a very friendly environment and they have more time to persuade them to buy their products. Thirdly, it provides flexible hours for stylists to show their styles.

. Therefore, as wee can see, the culture of the company is very friendly and it inherently aligned with the values of the CEO of the company, Jessica Herrin , who is the mother of 2 children and starts her company in her living room. Hence, she insists on providing flexible hours for employees to have enough time to spend time with their families. For instance, they don’t have any meetings at 6 pm because that is the time when everybody has to be in their home with their families and that makes Jessica Herrin be a mother and CEO at the same time.

The culture of this company indicates their special values and beliefs that are mostly coordinated with the values of women and mothers in all over the world.
