In the last week, news has been around Michael Flynn’s possible testimony provided that the state guarantees him political immunity. The NewYorkTimes believe that President Donald Trump is right in backing his former security advisor Flynn in this ongoing investigation and that Flynn possible does deserve immunity for such a testimony. But let’s break down the situation and see how ethical this decision by Mike Flynn was.

To start off, yes, this decision is based on self-serving interests over the larger benefit of the state. Considering his testimony can in its hypothetical nature, have a landslide effect on the American political system since it involves the intervention of a foreign agency on the democratic electoral process of the United States, he should be willing to provide such information in the form of a testimony irrespective of an immunity since such information in invaluable for the US Government. Secondly, does this decision respect the rights of the individual affected? Unfortunately, it is a big no yet again, since every American citizen holds the right to information and deserves the right to know whether was the American elections rigged by a foreign government and if their votes were the only sole criterion for the appointment of their President. Finally, is the decision fair and equitable? Well again, it once again fails to be fair to the people as well as the government, but looking at it from Flynn’s point of view, this could have a very different cause.

The testimony that Flynn is talking about providing, could well drop him into a lot of danger from multiple stakeholders, which is why it is acceptable for him to ask for immunity, where he is faced with a decision to make between his patriot heart and self-security.
