In order to communicate effectively, a communication action plan is an essential first step.  Planning the steps required to effectively communicate a change prior to implementing change helps to ensure that all affected parties are aware and prepared for the change to take place.

By looking at and taking into account as many assumptions as possible, a well thought out communication plan can address these issues quickly and effectively.

Communicating the reason for a change is a required part of a communication action plan.  The purpose of the change being proposed needs to be communicated clearly to everyone involved.  Without a clear purpose, effective communication cannot occur.

Knowing the target audience can help to appropriately tailor the communication action plan to ensure as much buy-in as possible.
