Abstract

Trails in protected parks are under risk of damage due to constant use. Soil erosion is one of the indicators of this damage. It is detrimental to both, the users’ experience and to the environment. This project aims to identify areas most prone to soil erosion in the Cypress Park area remotely using arcGIS. The method used to model soil erosion sensitivity is the revised universal soil loss equation. The results show that areas most prone to soil erosion are areas around gully beds. 80% of the trails in Cypress are in very low soil erosion zones. High resolution data would give more detailed results to help pin point these areas specifically. This data can be used to implement preventive measures to avoid soil erosion in erosion sensitive areas.
