{"id":12,"date":"2015-01-09T00:21:58","date_gmt":"2015-01-09T07:21:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/solomonvandt\/?page_id=12"},"modified":"2015-04-06T19:31:19","modified_gmt":"2015-04-07T02:31:19","slug":"biography","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/solomonvandt\/biography\/","title":{"rendered":"Biography"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My name is Solomon Vandt, a fourth year <a href=\"http:\/\/biochem.ubc.ca\/?login\" target=\"_blank\">Biochemistry<\/a> student at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ubc.ca\" target=\"_blank\">University of British Columbia<\/a> (UBC) expecting to graduate in the Spring of 2015. \u00a0During my Bachelor\u2019s degree, I completed the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencecoop.ubc.ca\" target=\"_blank\">UBC Science Co-op Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the Co-op program, I worked as a Clinical Trials Assistant with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bccancer.bc.ca\/default.htm\" target=\"_blank\">BC Cancer Agency<\/a> (BCCA) where\u00a0I was involved in the processing, documentation, and shipment of clinical samples of patients\u00a0enrolled in clinical trials.<\/p>\n<p>Following my BCCA experience, I worked at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abmgood.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Applied Biological Materials<\/a> (ABM), a biotech company located in Richmond, B.C.\u00a0 At ABM, I worked as Research Assistant in the Genetic Engineering sector of the R&amp;D department. \u00a0In this position, I was involved in\u00a0production of various kits sold by ABM, quality control of products, and development of novel kits. \u00a0Concurrently, I held the role of Cell Licensing Associate at ABM, a role which required me to use my professional communication and negotiation skills to reach cell licensing agreements with various institutions. In August 2014, I was awarded the Cell Licensing Business Development Award for outstanding contribution by ABM.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-262 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/solomonvandt\/files\/2015\/01\/Biography_Photo_1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Biography_Photo_1\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-260\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/solomonvandt\/files\/2015\/01\/Biography_Photo_2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Biography_Photo_2\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-261 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/solomonvandt\/files\/2015\/01\/Contact_Info_Picture-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Contact_Info_Picture\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Through\u00a0my various experiences, I realized my passion for working with patients and being involved in healthcare. I am currently employed as a Clinical Trials Assistant in a causal role at BCCA Vancouver Cancer Centre (VCC). In this role I work closely with Unit Clerks and Data Coordinators. Upon my UBC graduation, I am taking on a full time role with BCCA in a Clinical Trials Assistant\/Coordinator position.<\/p>\n<p>I am also a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bccancer.bc.ca\/rs\/vancouvercentre\/volunteers.htm\" target=\"_blank\">volunteer at the BCCA VCC<\/a> providing\u00a0support for patients living with cancer. Being in a Floater role, I provided conversational support for patients in the clinical trials arm and in the radiation therapy sector, in addition to the other areas of the centre. \u00a0In a shift-lead role, I help the Volunteer Services Coordinator with various administrative duties.<\/p>\n<p>On my free time, I like playing sports, learning new meal recipes, and watching movies.
