My Professional Inquiry Journey

INVESTIGATE

Investigate educational theories and philosophies to inform your practice

Though I’d like to think that I’ve developed my own philosophies over time, through experience and reflection; and though I have, to some capacity, explored different educational frameworks based on education theories and philosophies, I might have next to no insight on what those theories and philosophies actually are. I haven’t given it much thought, to be honest. That doesn’t mean I don’t employ any in my practice, but I can’t say that I intentionally look into it. I think I did more so when I was in my undergrad and PDP and was thinking I would be a physical education and Spanish teacher. I looked into theories about how and when to introduce movement experiences and about how to best acquire a new language, but now that I am in a teaching role that I never saw coming (in resource), I am realizing that I have very little understanding into the theories that inform how we go about special education. My first step in developing this capacity with be a simple one: look more into it! What kind of theories are out there about support roles in education? What theories and philosophies inform most of the approaches I currently take in special education?
