Is it a good action for Chinese government to employ 2 million to monitor the Internet?

Chinese government employs 2 million to monitor the reports which are posted on the popular social communication web sites, for example, Xinlang weibo, a Chinese Twitter, that everyone can post anything you want. But those online police just type several keywords that is negative, however, the cost of the machine makes me shocked. According to Tang Xiaotao who used to work as a monitor for less than 6 months, he said it costsĀ $3 million yuan ($490,000), which is quite expensive!

On the news, it says that the number for online monitor is 2 million which is even bigger than active army personnel. The purpose of employing those people is in order to protect the government itself. As a Chinese, I am used to this kind of action, because all citizens cannot say any negative point towards the government.

Sometimes, we could see negative posts regarding to politics shown and we all know that the information flows very fast on the webs. Maybe those posts are made up that will affect the government’s position, but sometimes when the information is right, what the government need to do is to stop them as quickly as possible. They limit the rights and freedom to speak of citizens.

It is hard to evaluate whether spending so much money not only on hiring people, but also producing software applications is worthy. No one could answer the question, but the government officials, because we, as the outsiders, do not know exactly how many bad things the government did.
