It is designed to acquire practical communication<\/p>\n<p>through every day life topics, such as university life, family, food, traditions, and more.<\/p>\n<p>The fundamentals of grammar will be studied so you can apply them in the<\/p>\n<p>four skills of learning: speaking, listening, writing and reading.<\/p>\n<p>Classes will be conducted in Spanish as much as possible and English will be used for<\/p>\n<p>clarification and effectiveness of teaching.<\/p>\n<p>The intention of this teaching style is to create a safe environment for you to<\/p>\n<p>explore the language and participate as much as possible, since it is one of the fewest<\/p>\n<p>opportunities you will have to practice Spanish in Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What you will gain with this course:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>*Knowledge in basic grammar to be able to build simple yet skilled sentence<\/p>\n<p>structures.<\/p>\n<p>*Effective communication through listening, speaking, writing and reading.<\/p>\n<p>*Acquisition of vocabulary through role-play situations given in class.<\/p>\n<p>*Creativity in solving different scenarios where you could be immersed when<\/p>\n<p>exposed to the culture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pre-requisites:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Spanish 101 is a 3-credit course for fully beginners, with little or no<\/p>\n<p>knowledge in the language. If you have taken Grade 11 Spanish or equivalent,<\/p>\n<p>you are welcome to take the course. Students with Grade 12 Spanish are<\/p>\n<p>normally placed in the 2nd year of Spanish, although some exceptions may be<\/p>\n<p>applied. Should you be unsure of your level, the coordinator of this course will<\/p>\n<p>provide a placement test.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Expectations:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>*It is expected that you commit to the course by attending faithfully to classes,<\/p>\n<p>have a positive attitude towards learning, by completing the homework<\/p>\n<p>assigned and practicing as much as possible inside and outside class.<\/p>\n<p>*Clarify with the instructor any questions or concerns you might have. Don\u2019t<\/p>\n<p>leave it to the last minute! The clearer each topic is in your mind, the faster you<\/p>\n<p>will progress and the more you will enjoy learning Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>*Cellular phones must be Turned OFF during the class. All the sections will test the<\/p>\n<p>vocabulary of the chapters assigned, as well as the grammar taught in class.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Composici\u00f3n 1 y 2 <\/strong>(10% each): you will be assigned a composition of about 150 words<\/p>\n<p>specific to the chapters covered in class. The compositions will be done in class only.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tareas del Blog y Ilearn<\/strong>(5%): the on-line component is assigned <strong>weekly <\/strong>and according to the lessons<\/p>\n<p>covered in class. Most of the activities are computer graded. This activity will be graded<\/p>\n<p>by completion.
