Best Works

The curriculum of English 301 involved completing a variety of writing assignments that ranged from writing formal complaint letters to a formal report as well as peer reviewing assignments completed by other students. The feedback I received from my fellow students was incredibly helpful in editing my own work. Below is a sample of some of the assignments I feel are a good example of my writing skills:

Definition of Computational Complexity: This assignment was a good exercise in writing for an audience unfamiliar with technical terms. It was an excellent introduction to the style of writing required for the course.

Complaint and Bad News Letters: These are two letters regarding the same issue. One is written from my own perspective and is a complaint regarding a recent issue and requesting the company do somethign to rectify the issue. The second letter is from the company’s perspective in which the request is denied but a compromise is offered. This assignment developed skills that I feel are likely to be put to use in my carreer.

LinkedIn Best Practices: This is a list of 10 best practices when creating a LinkedIn profile. I compiled this list using best practices that I found helpful while editing my own LinkedIn profile for another assignment in the same unit.

Formal Report: This report was meant to address a problem or issue in the workplace or at school. I chose to do mine on an issue I had already been asked to look in to by my employer which was to investigate the benefits of changing the tools used for communication and task management in the office. This assignment taught me a lot about formal writing for a specific audience and how to format a formal report. I am particularly proud of this repot because after submitting it to my employers it helped them make their decision to change tools by the end of December.

Peer Review of Mitchel Sharko’s Writing with You Attitude Assignment: We completed several peer reviews over the course of the term. This is a peer review I did of my classmate Mitchel Sharko’s assignment on writing with You Attitude.
