Hi there! I am an Elementary Teacher Candidate in the Teaching English Language Learning Through a Cross-Curricular Case-Based Inquiry Approach (TELL-3C) cohort at UBC. Our cohort specializes in strategies for helping elementary students for whom English is an additional language using problem solving, critical thinking and inquiry- based approaches. This includes encouraging multimodal ways of learning and balancing text-based lessons with hands-on applications for students.
I have had the opportunity to facilitate in a variety of educational settings, including various elementary schools, reading and writing programs, and tutoring, that inform my abilities to adapt to new situations and adapt to various learning styles in multimodal ways. Through my experiences of working with students with specific needs for learning, language support, behaviour difficulties, and specific supports for ADHD and anxiety, I learned that there is no singular, universal method of teaching. My cohort experience through the TELL-3C Inquiry Approach allows me to develop key abilities in differentiated instruction and planning. These strategies support the various skills, needs, languages, and backgrounds of all students by using problem solving, critical thinking, inquiry-based and culturally-responsive approaches. From this program, I will be able to honour cultural protocols of Indigenous Knowledge and incorporate the First Peoples’ Principles of Learning, while focusing on land-based education in a holistic manner. Ultimately, my goal as a teacher is not only to foster students who can excel academically but also to develop their skills in thoughtfulness, kindness, and teamwork abilities that extend from the school environment to the community.
As an educator, my goals include supporting the diverse needs of every student while promoting inclusivity and empowering all types of learners. I will support an inclusive, caring community of learners that embraces both individual and interactive learning in an environment that encourages creativity, curiosity, and life-long learning.
Alongside my eager passion for teaching, I spend my free time weightlifting, playing basketball, enjoying outdoor recreation, listening to Motown music, and cooking!
