Experience on ArcMap

This map is parts of our team project in GEOB 270, which is a class about Geographic Information System (GIS). There were three people in our team, and we explored some recommanded area for UBC students who plan to live out of campus.

In the map, we suggest the green parts as areas that is suitable for students to live depends on its relatively lower price, higher safty and the distance to the nearest bus stop. We use ArcMap as the software to create this map. We first got a Vancouver city map and a set of data such as the crime rate and housing cost. We intergrated these data, so that we can get intersected areas for both relatively lower crime rate and housing cost. Also we put the bus line data on the map so that students can choose a nearest bus line to go to school.

Through this team work, I realized that cooperation is very important. Because this work is actually a big work, and we also need to write a report. Due to some reason, we had to restart our project. That means we have to search for all data again, and that was very busy at that time. We solved this problem together and we finished our own part very quickyly. Teamwork saves our working time and we did that very well. This experience makes me learn how to use the ArcMap, and I found it is a very useful and interesting software. For example, it can be very helpful when you are seeking for a suitable place to live, or when the governemnt want to construct some public facilities.
