{"id":2329,"date":"2017-05-17T15:03:18","date_gmt":"2017-05-17T22:03:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/stem2017\/?p=2329"},"modified":"2017-05-17T15:03:18","modified_gmt":"2017-05-17T22:03:18","slug":"hello-from-calgary-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/stem2017\/2017\/05\/17\/hello-from-calgary-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Hello from Calgary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m Laurie Campbell, a Grade 4 teacher in Calgary, Alberta. \u00a0I am also a PHP developer, which has lead to an interesting smash-up of projects in the last little while. \u00a0I am currently working on a student registration site for an &#8220;Einstein Day&#8221; at our school, where students will have their choice of STEM activities. \u00a0We tried something similar last year and it was a lot of fun, for both staff and students.<\/p>\n<p>I am officially half-way through the MET program (yay!). \u00a0I particularly enjoyed the last course I took &#8211; ETEC 510, Design of Technology-Supported Learning Environments. \u00a0We made an online book review site with an Instagram component. \u00a0That was a neat project to work on.<\/p>\n<p>I started off my career with a BSc. in Ecology and taught high school math before settling into elementary. \u00a0I love this age group, but I&#8217;m usually looking for ways to &#8220;spruce up&#8221; the science curriculum, especially. \u00a0Alberta is due for a fairly major curriculum redesign, and we&#8217;ve been watching closely to see how things are going in BC. \u00a0This course looks like it could be a fantastic mix of inspiration\/perspiration and I&#8217;m looking forward to the learning.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m Laurie Campbell, a Grade 4 teacher in Calgary, Alberta. \u00a0I am also a PHP developer, which has lead to an interesting smash-up of projects in the last little while. \u00a0I am currently working on a student registration site for an &#8220;Einstein Day&#8221; at our school, where students will have their choice of STEM activities.
