Hello everyone! Happy to be getting started on course 8 for me! The end of my MET is in sight! It has been such an incredible journey so far and I feel like I really have transformed my classroom practice through the three and a half years I have been in this program. I live in Calgary, AB. I teach Grade 3 French Immersion with a small amount of release time to work as a Learning Leader, as a part of which I get to work with other teachers on how to integrate technology in their teaching practice. I’m excited to be undertaking this course right now because our school’s school development plan is related to math this year, so I’m excited to see how I can better leverage technology in math teaching and learning.
I am a mom to two littles who I love to explore the mountains with! We can often be found hiking and camping. I was incredibly proud of my six-year-old this summer for managing to summit Sulphur Mountain (he had a blast waving at the people riding the gondola up) and to climb to the Lake Agnes tea house. I find the trail and sitting around a bonfire to be the best places for conversations with them.
I love riding my bike and commute to work by bike as often as I can. I run when I can and usually “race” a couple of half marathons each year… if you can can call a turtle’s pace racing… lol… I’m just getting my money’s worth out of the course.
Looking forward to getting to know all of you!
Tracy
Hi Tracy,
what a lovely family picture! I am on my 5th course now – good to hear that even with work and familiy and sport, MET is manageable 🙂
Looking to work with you,
Elske
Hi Tracy!
It is so great that you are almost done! I am also doing my 7th and 8th courses this term and have really enjoyed my experience but it is always nice to see that finish line. I had never heard of a learning leader before but it sounds awesome! Is this something that your school has implemented or do you travel around your district?
I too am a wilderness girl spending most of my free time getting lost in the forests and camping.
I look forward to working with you throughout this course,
Shayla
Hello fellow Albertan! Congrats on being near the end! I am doing my 8th and 9th MET course this term and it feels GREAT! It is really great that you get release time for being a Learner Leader. Is this a school based position or a district position? In our school district we have both learning coaches (inclusive specialists) and technology coaches (tech specialists) in all of our schools ranging from 0.1-1.0 FTE. I really feel that having some kind of instructional coach to work with elevates practice and gives teachers a chance to not only learn, but also apply there learning.
I hope you have a great term!
Trish
Our district has learning leader positions in schools. Our funding generally allows for an assistant principal or two learning leaders in a school. The work it entails varies widely from school to school. Our school has a learning leader who works mainly in Phys. Ed. and my position is mainly support related to technology. For some it’s a little bit of release time and for others it’s a full-time release from classroom duties to support teachers. It’s often seen as a step towards an admin position – an opportunity to take on some admin work without having to take the giant leap into a full admin position.
Hello fellow Albertan-Calgarian!!
Tracy I was just going through your forecasting project-ibook for 580-Teacher On-Boarding to use Mobile Digital Learner Portfolio Systems. I found it be very fascinating and I thought we should touch base sometime, as I use Google for Digital Portfolios for my students. Congrats on doing course #8, yes there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Cool! One of the great parts of doing the MET is how much of what we produce that floats around the Internet and we all benefit from one another’s work! Would love to chat more!
Wow, Tracy! How do you even have time to sleep?! Looking forward to hear your perspectives and sharing ideas with you in this course.
