Next wave of Social Media?

Although I am not a loyal consumer to the social media moguls such as Facebook and Twitter, I do partake in the everyday norms such as the “poke” option.

However, I noticed that recently, Facebook has updated their interior web designs such that they now have their own ‘real-time live update streaming’. Facebook, in my opinion is suppose to be user friendly, but from the recent changes it seems interestingly complicated to browse around and to ‘creep’.  I was confident that no other social media can surpass Facebook but as the behemoth company tries to advance their designs the more I hate it, as many would probably agree with me.   “Dear Mr. Zukerberg, Please don’t fix what isn’t broken!”

Today, the connections between people increasingly happen online. Yet the subtlety and substance of real-world interactions are lost in the rigidness of our online tools. What’s more frightening is the degradation of our privacy.  For instance, in order to install an application, a Facebook user must first agree to “allow this application to know who I am and access my information”. For all that Facebook allows us to share and collaborate with our friends and family, it continues to fail in helping protect us from the third party application companies that we don’t even know.

Search engine giant Google has just recently announced its Google+ social networking platform that’s set to rival Facebook. Google wants to make sharing online more like sharing in real life – different things with different people with privacy regulation enforced.  One thing that caught my interest is the idea of having different “CIRCLES”.  Circles help you organize everyone according to your real-life social connections: friends, family, acquaintances, and following. However, you may also create your own circles such as work friends, high school buddies, intramural team or anything you want to name each circle. You also have the choice to not add a person into your circle just because they’ve added you in theirs. Circles allow you to share relevant content with the right people, and follow content posted by people you find interesting.

I’m a pretty simple guy that likes simple things.  The old saying ‘keep it simple stupid’ – KISS is my ultimatum to Facebook disastrous redesigns.

Below is a videoclip I found on youtube about Google+.  Enjoy =)
