Task 7: Mode Bending

Posted by in Weekly Tasks

I found this task challenging. I spent a lot of time contemplating different approaches but didn’t connect with any of them. So, I decided to start simply and just review the objectives of the first task as a starting point for its redesign.  According to the New London Group (1996), redesigning isn’t about replicating existing designs or merely being creative; it’s about transforming the original (available) design – in this case, Task 1.   To me, our first task served two primary purposes:  It provided a method for introducing ourselves…read more

Task 6: An Emoji Story

Posted by in Weekly Tasks

Every Friday at our house is pizza-and-movie-night, so the decision to choose this movie was straightforward since it was fresh in my mind from our weekly tradition. Oral Path Twine.html I began this task by experimenting with Twine to see how easy it was to use. I started with a silly little “choose your own adventure” story about meeting a grizzly bear on a hike and found Twine to be straightforward and user-friendly. Task 4: Manual Scripts and Potato Printing

Posted by in Weekly Tasks

I really enjoyed the potato printing process, especially because I got to share it with my kids.  I had several 5 letter words in mind, but ultimately decided on “ocean” quite simply because I love the ocean. I grew up next to it and have always found its presence calming. The most challenging part for me was carving out the mirrored reflection of the letter. I made that mistake a few times, but I found it became easier with practice. I also found curved letters harder to carve then the…read more

Task 3: Voice to Text Task

Posted by in Weekly Tasks

My 5 Min Story Dave and I – 20 years later How does the text differentiate from the conventions of written English?  The most obvious difference to me between this text and conventional written English is the lack of paragraphs. Right off the bat, this text is intimidating to read because it’s essentially one solid page of words. The punctuation is either completely incorrect or missing, which I find to be significant because it makes the pace and flow of the story hard to gauge. The grammar is incomplete in…read more
