Make sure to select \u201cSuites\u201d under \u201cSelect Property\u201d when searching for availability.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stjohns.ubc.ca\/guest-meeting-rooms\/guest-accommodations\/\">St John\u2019s College<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 rooms start at $201\/night, and can be booked by indicating you are visiting the Linguistics department<\/li>\n<li>Crash Space for graduate students \u2013 we are working on providing couch-surfing options for graduate students. Stay tuned for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Off campus<br \/>\n<\/strong>Unfortunately, because there is very limited accommodation available on campus, it\u2019s likely that you will have to stay off campus. Thus, we encourage you to book your accommodation ASAP!<\/p>\n<p>Please be aware that UBC is a 40-60 minutes by transit or ~30 minutes by car from downtown Vancouver, where many hotels are located. There are also lots of accommodation options in the surrounding cities, but the commute may be significant.<\/p>\n<p>While some less expensive accommodation can be found in an area known as the Downtown Eastside, the area surrounding the intersection of Hastings and Main is known for high concentrations of people experiencing homelessness and substance misuse, and should be avoided.<\/p>\n<p>Note: Provincial short-term rental legislation prohibits short term rentals of entire homes, apartments, and condominiums. This legislation is strictly enforced. Before booking a short-term rental through a third party such as AirBnB, we encourage you to ensure that all local laws and regulations are followed.
