So there is this on going war in the mobile world between the IPhone and Blackberry and the question today still stands, which one is better?
Now this question cannot be easily answered because if it could be, average consumers like both you and I will not have to think, ponder and make such a hard choice when the time has finally come to switch out of our ghetto brick cell phones and into a cool looking, popular smart phone.
I recently took the liberty of conducting a friendly survey on which phone would an average person find more useful. Of course, the survey did not go so well as Blackberry users clearly voted for the Blackberry with their ultimate reasoning being BBM (Blackberry Messenger) because it provides the gateway to social networking instantly anywhere and anytime. Asides from that, the typical argument as to why Blackberry is better would be that it consists of an actual keyboard which some consumers find more convenient when it comes to typing. Now, let us have a look at the IPhone, another amazing prototype in our world today. Many IPhone users argue that the phone is simply better because it functions as a mini computer. It is able to do practically anything your computer is able to do which I believe was the essential idea Apple wanted to promote and market. However, IPhone will never be able to overtake Blackberry because it does not have and application such as BBM, although has tried to copy it with similar apps.
So in the end no one wins. There is technically no right answer as to which smart phone of the two is better. My question now is why they are still competing with each other? It is evident that IPhone and Blackberry are one of the top selling smart phones in the world today and the market in which they compete in is extremely competitive. However, because they are more favorable and have the advantage of being a smart phone they are placed above the competitive market of mobile phones and put into an oligopoly competing only against other smart phone brands. This is now the point where I wonder why doesn’t the IPhone and Blackberry come together to create the ultimate IBerryand turn the market into a monopolistic one. The IBerry will feature the IPhone ‘s handy miniature computer concept with Blackberry’s sustainable competitive advantage of BBM. The world will go nuts over the this collaboration and the IBerry will be truly the best smart phone anyone can find out there.
Just picture a world without the smart phone war, the hard decisions that may impact your life in ways you cannot imagine and the ability to have the best of both phones. Wouldn’t that be something else?
