Our goal is to find an area(s) in Surrey that has the potential to be built into the next biggest mall in British Columbia. Metrotown is a mall with 3 levels and for this project we will be doing our analysis based on the idea that this new mall will have 4-5+ levels to give it more characteristic. We will be looking at empty lots or non-reserved agricultural land that would allow for this development.
Since Metrotown is 166,816 m2 (1,795,591 sqft) over 3 floors, if we were to build a mall that has at least 4 floors, one more than Metrotown, we would need a minimum of 41,704 m2 of land space to develop on.
The chosen mall location will be based on:
- Income of residential areas neighbouring the mall (the higher the income the better)
- Land parcel plots that cover the mall area (the lower the number of parcels the better)
- The shortest time from the Surrey Central skytrain station to one of the three potential mall locations (the shortest time is better)
