Welcome!

Welcome to my online teaching portfolio on UBC Blogs!

As you have most likely already guessed, my name is Susan and I am a graduate of UBC’s Teacher Education (Elementary) program. I have had a varied and fulfilling career to date, including what adds up to years as a strings educator, a musician, and an Arts administrator. As I carve a new path with my career, the latest part of my journey is with the Vancouver School Board, and I am loving every minute!

On this blog you will find links connecting you to my journey into teaching, teaching philosophy, teaching experiences, professional goals, and résumé.

The portfolio, just like my career and learning, is very much an ongoing process, so all comments and suggestions are welcome!

Before I leave you to browse, I should explain the significance of the photo you see on the header. During the last week of my extended practicum (June 2013), I was fortunate enough to go with my students to camp. They begged me to try the low rope, and eventually I somewhat reluctantly obliged. Each student cheered me along on my wobbly journey, and  though I didn’t quite reach the end, this experience served as a wonderful reminder of the special moments in teaching. As I support students in their learning, they support me in mine. How wondrous the reciprocal relationship between students and their teacher can be, and a wonderful reminder of the great value to be found in our journeys.

Thank you for visiting my site,

Susan Hudson
