Dr. Barbara Lee | Executive Producer and Host

As a Knowledge Exchange and Mobilization (KxM) scholar, Barbara strives to build university-community partnerships in knowledge creation and exchange, and to disseminate and mobilize knowledge that will promote positive social change. In addition to creating The Knowledge Exchange podcast, Barbara serves as the  founding editor-in-chief for the open-access e-journal Research and Evaluation in Child, Youth, and Family Services to encourage dialogue and advancing impactful research to promote positive change in child, youth, and family services.

Michelle’s research focuses on child protection systems, judgement and decision making, supervisory neglect as a maltreatment classification, and children in public space.


Cathy Jiu | Producer and Editor

Cathy’s interests span the areas of community engagement, advocacy, equity and policy. She is most interested in exploring the facets of knowledge exchange and innovative dissemination methods, and how they can further facilitate the application of research to inform policymaking and social welfare programming.


Qian Zhou | Producer and Editor

Qian is originally from Southwest China and earned her Master’s degree in Social Work in China in 2020. Her research interest focuses on child welfare, particularly children with disabilities.


Maddie Cathcart | Producer and Editor

Maddie is a 4th year BSW Student at the UBC School of Social Work and has a previous Bachelor’s in Sociology from UBC. Maddie’s research interests focus on the lived reality of macro social patterns, such as induced socio-economic status, experiences of economic systems and how these impact childhood access to resources that promote thriving development. Maddie plans to pursue some of these interests through a Masters of Public Policy and hopes to incorporate the valuable knowledge of social work practice into policy development and advocacy.
