Identity Beaded Bracelets
One of the activities that students took part in was the creation of “identity bracelets” which was an activity shared to us at UBC prior to the practicum. This activity involved the creation of bracelets where each bead represented different aspects of their identity. According to the order and colour of bracelet, students would answer questions related to identity and their personal values. Students later discussed their similarities and differences of their bracelet with their peers.
This was a way to get students to describe themselves, the different groups they belong to, individual characteristics they had. It was also a way to reflect on the similarities and differences between people, which was represented in the variety of coloured bracelets students had at the end of the experience.
