PROFESSIONAL GROWTH PLAN YEAR 2017
A. Goal:
General: The development of a program that makes greater use of technology in the classroom in the area of Language Arts. The program will incorporate technology within the various levels of the SAMR (Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, Redefinition) model. Technology will be used by both the students and the teacher to enhance learning outcomes in Language Arts.
- To develop an instructional program that gives students the skills to find information necessary to write a nonfiction book.
- To develop an instructional program that will assist students through the writing process, specifically, in the steps of revising and publishing of their work.
- To incorporate technology that will assist ELL students in language arts.
- To use technology that would incorporate the Redefinition level of the SAMR model.
Areas of Focus
General: – The following applies to number 1 above and incorporates the Core Competency of Communication and Critical Thinking:
- Step-by-step instructional program that goes over the features of nonfiction books.
- Step-by-step instructional program that explicitly teaches students strategies to appropriately search for information online such as pictures.
General: – The following applies to number 2 above and incorporates the Core Competency of Communication:
- Step-by-step lessons detailing the writing process and how to use digital media.
- Step-by-step instructional component on how to use book creator applications.
- Step-by-step instructional component on how to use features such as “spellchecker” and dictionary apps that will also be downloaded on the iPad.
General: The following applies to number 3 above:
- Step-by-step instructional component for how to use apps and features of iPads to help develop vocabulary acquisition and fluency.
C. Activities
- Incorporate “Scribble” into Language Arts unit plan. After studying the elements of nonfiction books, students will create and publish their work on Scribble. They will use use technological features available on the iPad to help them revise their work such as spell check. Students will be encouraged to share their work, either online or offline.
- Use voice recording on iPad to help ELL students receive feedback about their reading to build their fluency.
- The use of educational and entertaining apps such as” Futaba” and “Kids’ Vocab-MindSnacks” to support vocabulary acquisition with ELL students.
- The use of video conferencing to invite an author or a guest speaker.
