Hello GIS world!

GIS has exposed me to a lens to visualize the world that we live in differently. I discovered that I learn best when I allow myself to be in the shoes of the person that would actually be doing GIS analysis in similar situations as pictured in the lab assignments in this course. I also lear best when allowed to approach my work hands-on and when brainstorming and problem solving is encouraged. I can now picture the huge potential and the vast scope of GIS analysis in many upcoming fields and across the globe – which has pleasantly surprised me.

If I were to describe to a friend what I learned in GIS, it would be the ability to visualize the world around us and the situation at hand in a comprehensive manner and then use that power to visualize differently as a tool for problem solving.

GIS can be very closely applied and relate to fields critical in our future – from exploration and application of renewable energy to a common man’s daily life and related experiences. It is an important tool and skill to develop as an individual to be able to adapt better to the changing urban and natural systems.
