Upcoming Events for TA’s by CTLT

Hello TA’s and TA’s in training!

The Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT) is hosting a variety of events catered to TA’s and Grad Students as a part of the CTLT Summer Institute August 22 – 25. The Institute focuses on the fundamentals of teaching and learning issues and is designed to help participants enhance their understanding of sound teaching practices.

 

Workshop Facilitation Workshop (for TA Coordinators and Senior TA’s)

August 22, 9am – 5pm, IKBLC Chilcotin Room (256)

During this workshop you will focus on developing key skills for designing workshops and classroom activities: determining workshop/activity objectives, designing activities, time management, etc.

Guiding Class Discussions

Learn how to facilitate a discussion effectively, motivate all students to speak and balance student participation during classroom discussions.

Marking Papers and Giving Feedback

This session will review a few strategies that will help you keep your grades consistent, provide feedback that helps students learn from their mistakes as well as their successes and do it all in a way that saves you both time and energy.

Setting the Climate: Creating Supportive Learning Environments

This session will explore the situational factors of a course and narrow the level of analysis to the classroom so participants can become more attuned to the complexity of the classroom space in which we deliver our courses and how this relates to student learning.

Mentoring (for Senior TA’s)
September 15, 10:30am-4:30pm, IKBLC Seminar Room (2.22)
This workshop is meant for senior TA’s who will be serving, formally or informally as mentors for other TA’s in their departments, focusing on developing specific mentoring skills.
