About Me

Hello! Let me introduce myself… I am a teacher candidate at the University of British Columbia. I am nearing the end of my education program  and thought I would document this new and exciting chapter of my life. I am a first time blogger but so far everything seems straightforward! A little about me…

I am currently in the social and emotional learning (SEL) cohort within the education program at UBC. I find this focus relates heavily with my own teaching philosophy and my life in general. It was such a rewarding experience to be able to take SEL theory and self-regulation strategies learnt at UBC and use it in my practicum.

Another interrelated passion of mine is psychology. I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at UBC and worked as a Behavioural Interventionist for children with autism while completing my degree. Behavioural Intervention work was one of the most eye-opening experiences of my entire life. Getting to spend time with amazing unique children really opened my mind as to what education means and how it really differs from student to student. This greatly influence my desire to cultivate pro-social classrooms and support differentiated learning.

Outside of the classroom I spend a lot of my time outdoors. I feel very fortunate to live in such a beautiful province that allows me to go hiking one day and kayaking the next (my two favourite summer time hobbies!). Also in my free time I enjoy reading (I must admit that as much as I enjoy adult literature nothing is more satisfying than a good picture book!).

And last but certainly not least I could not write an about me section without mentioning the love of my life. My dog Buddy. There’s something very special about being greeted with such love and enthusiasm every time I walk into my house.
