“Love is a better teacher than a sense of duty”

I read this Albert Einstein quote in an article discussing how to raise creative children (New York Times). The article made me think and feel many things, and left me with a sense that we are doing generations below us a huge disfavor with the constant reminder of the rules they must follow. the jam packed schedule of extracurriculars and the fear of getting ‘hurt’ by allowing our children take any sort of risk.

It saddens and shocks me that creativity is something the children of up and coming generations are lacking in a world that is flourishing in outlets to explore their own creative abilities. Our societal norms, plagued with the urgency to make our youth ‘successful’ and reach standards above and beyond what their parents have accomplished have ultimately squashed much of the naturally occuring creativity right out of children.
