Week 2 Memo

Weekly Objectives

  • Modify the ADC program to output the voltage of a channel on the Q4000 and send the output back to our emails.
  • Modify the program to and change the subject line to differentiate your group emails.
  • To try to modify the code from DemoAppFFS which saves data to a file when the satellite is not in view and to send out the saved files to the satellite once it is being detected. Instead of using the GPS, we assign a counter for it.
  • To try to look into the DemoAppGSM (timer header file) and make modifications to it in order to use the timer for future use in our project.
  • Discuss and plan out ideas for our project for the next coming weeks- delegate tasks and list the parts needed for the project.
  • Start with the design stage of our project.

Challenges

  • We have problems integrating the code from the DemoAppGSM to the DemoAppADC for it to send an email.
  • We were unable to send an email with a subject line containing the voltage to ourselves (week 1 issue).
  • Time management.

Next Week Itinerary

  • Purchase and order parts from stores or via Digikey.
  • Start building and testing the parts for the project.
  • To get sensors to read data and moving parts to work.
  • Complete all lab objectives given to us by the Teaching assistants.

Summary

In the second week of the Orbcomm SCADA project two objectives were assigned. First to use the DemoAppFFS to save data into a file using counters. This is useful for back up purposes in the project. The second tasks given by our Teaching Assistants is to modify the timer function in the DemoAppGSM to display a certain message after a certain time. With the given tasks for the week, our team should be able to make full use of the application in our project and it will be definitely be very helpful. We have also managed to solve the issue which we were having the last week regarding about changing the subject line in our emails as well as sending the appropriate data from the ADC to our email. We have also managed come out with a creative idea which measures light intensity of multiple sensors and rain fall to be used in switching the position of the solar panels according to the position of the sun. An elaborate design is posted on the blog. As according to planned, we have listed the parts needed to be purchased in the following week and delegated tasks for all members of the group.
